Chapter 3

~Sunnydale High Library- 1:09 a.m. ~

“Okay, why’d you call Wes and I here in the middle of the night?” Faith grumbled. “I was doing this thing called sleeping. I’m starting to think you have no idea what the word means, Angel.”

“Vampires do sleep, Faith.” Angel corrected her. “The point is Spike and his minions captured me tonight. Buffy let me go.”

“Buffy let you go?” Faith scoffed. “Man that girl is whack!”

“Don’t talk about her like that!” Angel growled. “Look, I am not her to discuss Buffy with you. I got information from her while I was in chains.”

“Chains?” Faith chuckled. “Man, you don’t waste any time, huh, sport? I never knew you were kinky like that.”

“She tied me up.” Angel continued. “Anyway, she told me that Spike was going to kill you, Faith. Hell, she even made death threats against you.”

“So, your ex is gonna try to kill me?” Faith asked.

“Don’t mock, Faith!” Wesley scolded his Slayer. “Can she do it, Angel?”

“Yeah.” Angel nodded. “She has power over the rest of them. They’d do anything for her.”

“We must train you for it, Faith.” Wesley told her. “You’ve got to be ready.”

“Look, I don’t mean to rain on anybody’s parade here, but if Blondie wants to go up against me, fine. I’ll deal.” Faith explained, hearing Angel’s low growl. “I’m sorry, Angel. I know she’s your mate or whatever, but a girl’s got to protect her family. You had to have known it would come to this.”

“You kill her and I’ll kill you.” Angel growled fiercely.

“Is that a threat?” Faith asked.

“I don’t say things I don’t mean.” Angel snapped.

“Then let the games begin.” Faith replied, walking out of the library.

The brunette Slayer wasn’t paying any attention when she ran into a leather clad redheaded female.

“I’m sorry.” Faith apologized and helped the red haired girl gather her bag’s contents. “I’m Faith.”

“Willow.” she smiled. “Hey, could you use a lift?”

“My car’s actually just right over there.” Faith pointed to a yellow VW Beetle. “Maybe I’ll see you at the Bronze or school sometime?”

“Yeah. You’ll see me around soon.” Willow agreed and moved inside the school.

Willow heard voices and tracked them down to the library where Angel and a brown haired man were still conversing.

“Puppy!” Willow squealed. “Mistress will be so pleased that I relocated you.”

She tiptoes out of the school and off to the factory. Meanwhile, Wesley and Angel continue their conversation.

“Faith needs to realize the reality of the situation. She could die, Wesley.” Angel sighed. “When I turned Buffy, I taught her everything about the hunt. I taught her how to fight, how to escape without getting caught. Faith is a smart girl, Wes. Although I truly believe she is very naïve when she thinks that she can survive every battle she has to face.”

“The question is can she survive your mate, Angel?” Wesley asked. “I’ve searched the Watcher’s Diaries. Rupert Giles, Buffy’s Watcher, has reiterated time and time again that Buffy’s very stubborn and she likes to do things her own way. He also says that she didn’t take orders well.”

“No, she doesn’t.” Angel agreed. “Rupert watched me drain her right in front of him that night. I saw the fear in both their eyes as I killed her. Never did figure out what happened to good ole Rupes. Ran off before Buffy woke.”

“He was my great-uncle five times over or something like that on my mother’s side.” Wesley answeres. “He had so many plans for your beloved Buffy. He thought of her like a daughter: so full of life. A life she had yet to lead.”

“And I wanted her in the dark…with me.” Angel said. “I feel I should warn you now, Wesley. Buffy’s a dangerous animal. Don’t think she’s not capable of evil just because she’s mentally unstable and looks ordinary. Aside from Angelus, she was the most vicious creature in the history of mankind.”

“Thank you, Angel.” Wesley nodded. “Best to get some rest. I’ll need you to patrol with Faith for the next couple of weeks. Better safe than sorry.”

“I know.” Angel said. “Good luck, Wes.”

“I’ll call you soon.” Wesley retreated back into his office.

The current Watcher opened up his Diaries for references to Buffy and other Slayers. He searched what their connections were, what Buffy’s supposed ritual entailed, etc.

“That’s it.” Wesley sighed happily after hours of searching. He picked up the phone and dialed Angel. “Hey, it’s Wesley. I need you to get down here as soon as possible. I’ve got some good news.”
